What you will be reading

The free chapter is Accountability, the first of the six ASPIRE pillars. It answers the question Guy Jacobs is asked more than any other in the consulting room, how do I make these feelings stop, and it closes with two techniques he has taught to clients for the better part of thirty years: disassociation, for a moment that keeps replaying, and peripheral awareness, for pressure as it arrives. A worksheet at the end turns both into a week of practice. It stands on its own; you do not need the preceding seven chapters to use it.

Rebuilding the Village is Guy Jacobs's account of the youth mental health crisis, written after nearly thirty years in the therapy room. It argues that the crisis is structural rather than individual: the community that once protected young people was dismantled within a generation, and the book sets out a practical framework for rebuilding it through families, schools, workplaces, and healthcare acting together. There is a full overview, including the book's three-part structure and who it is written for, on the about the book page.
