Who we are
This website, rebuildingthevillagebook.com, is operated by Guy Jacobs to share information about the book Rebuilding the Village. For anything relating to your data, contact help@rebuildingthevillagebook.com.
What we collect, and why
- Newsletter subscription: your email address and, optionally, your name. We use these to send you the free chapter you signed up for, news about the book (including when it is published and where to buy it), occasional related letters from Guy Jacobs, and, if you unsubscribe, one confirmation of that. We use double opt-in: you are only added to the list after you click the confirmation link we email you.
- Contact form: your name, email address, and message, used solely to respond to your enquiry.
- Spam prevention: a salted, one-way cryptographic hash of your IP address is kept for up to 24 hours to rate-limit abuse. Your actual IP address is never stored.
What we never do
We never sell, rent, or share your details with third parties for their own purposes. There is no advertising or cross-site tracking on this site.
Where your data lives
Data is stored in an encrypted database on Cloudflare's infrastructure. Emails are delivered by Resend, acting as our data processor. Fonts are served by Google Fonts, which may log the request that fetches them.
How long we keep it
Newsletter details are kept for as long as you remain subscribed. If you unsubscribe, we keep only a minimal record that this address opted out, so that nothing is ever sent to it again by mistake; you can ask us to erase that too. Contact messages are kept only as long as needed to handle your enquiry.
Your rights
Under UK GDPR you may request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal data at any time, and every marketing email we send contains a one-click unsubscribe link. Email help@rebuildingthevillagebook.com and we will act promptly. You also have the right to complain to the ICO (ico.org.uk).
